First snow!

I have been dreading the beginning of snowy weather in Iowa. I know, I'm from here, I should be used to it--how does someone get used to being freezing cold and having to stand out in gale winds scraping their windshields? Of course, the weather has not been this severe yet this year, so I count myself lucky. As a native Midwesterner, I know how to layer for warmth. Before going to the park this afternoon when it was a balmy 17 degrees, I put on several layers, only forgetting really warm socks. I took my puppy for a quick frolic in the snow. Usually we are one of the first footprints but today several others had been running around our field before us. Well, I guess I can get my Wellies, scarves, earmuffs, multiple gloves, and wool coat ready because this winter is supposed to be a rough one. As long as I have my puppy by my side with snow all over her face, I'll keep laughing and running around like a kid in the snow.

  1. When my Gizmo walked outside after it started snowing, he kept digging his nose into the ground and throwing the snow up...dogs are sooo cute!

  2. So jealous you have a puppy but as a native from Illinois I am no stranger to the cold either. I actually don't mind the cold all that much but in the winter I would prefer if it is super cold, I want it to snow.

  4. I love the snow! ...well for now, anyway. I suppose when it comes time for me to have to drive any lengthy distance in my little two-door sunfire that weighs only two pounds...I may begin to hate the snow and ice. If it's going to be 2 degrees outside, though, pretty white stuff should come floating out of the sky to at least make it look pretty! Have a great break! :)

  5. I'm with you completely Erika. I abandon my attempted English-major and say "Snow sucks" with more passion than anything I've ever written on a page.

It's been great reading your writing over the semester, having small group discussions with you, and looking over to see you rolling your eyes at the class asks questions that have already been answered. You've made me laugh and you have a tremendous voice in your writing. It's been great to have you as a friend and peer in the class.
